A great book

Hi, today I’m going to talk about a book I’ve been reading, which it’s called “Entre la Bruma”, written by Simonetta Agnello Hornby. This book is a novel, and it’s about a well-off family who lives in London, specifically in Kensington. The father of the family, named Mike, is a successful business man, and his wife (Jenny) works as a furniture consultant and interior designs. This couple has two little daughters, Amy and Lucy.

The troubles begin when Lucy’s teacher starts worrying about the little girl’s behavior, which shows anxiety and a deep discomfort. The teacher notifies to the parents of the girl and starts a judicial process, involving accusations to Mike around the possibility of sexual abuse to his daughter.

I’m really enjoying this book because it talks about topics that don’t come out so easy, especially in literature, and also because it makes emphasis that this kind of crimes can happen even in “good families”. I think this is a really great book, because you can’t imagine what really happened until you read the entire book, so it maintains the suspense ‘til the end, which make it very fun!  Also, it’s not that long, so you can perfectly read it in a week or something. I’m not going to tell you what happens at the end, because I hope you all read it and enjoy it as much as I did!

My Best Friend

Hi everyone!

Today I’m going to introduce to all of you my best friend, Camila. I met her in 2012 because we were classmates in high school. I remember we didn’t talk a lot when we were at school because back then we had different friends, but we always chat on Facebook. After a few weeks, we realized that we lived very close, so we started hanging out on weekends and studying together. We have a lot of things in common, like the music we listen to, our love for History Channel and Harry Potter’s books and movies, our opinion about many topics (like abortion, feminism, educational politics in Chile) and so much more.

Now we don’t see each other so much because she studies in Valparaíso and I’m living in Santiago, but when the both of us are in Machalí, we always hang out and tell each other everything. Also, we try to keep in touch on Facebook and Whatsapp as much as we can, in spite of being busy studying for tests or something. I think being apart and don’t see each other very often didn’t distance us, and it’s really nice to think about how close we are today and how well we know each other.

A really special present

Hi! Today I’m going to talk about a present that was given to me that I especially liked. I remember so many gifts that my parents gave me (especially in Christmas), but if I have to choose just one, I would say it was my bicycle. I remember I was living in Coyhaique back then, so I was like nine or ten years old, and I didn’t have a bicycle for a long time ago because the one I had before became too small for me when I was like five years old (I guess).

That Christmas, I remember that about two weeks earlier from the real date my parents received two bicycles and told me that were gifts for my two older brothers, and I got really jealous because I wanted one too, so I started searching in my house for a present that was for me. It took me several days because I was never alone in my house, but one day my parents were on the backyard and I looked into the store room, and there it was: a beautiful light blue bicycle with a big basket on the front. At first, I thought it was a gift to my mom, but then I rode it and I realized it fit me, so I was hoping it was for me instead of my mom.

Then, the Christmas day arrived and there I saw it with a really big card with my name on it. I remember I was so happy that I went riding it without even eating my breakfast, and since then I rode it every single day until I had to move to Santiago to study in the University. Now my bike is in my house in Machalí, but whenever I have time I go out on it.

A place where I'd like to live

Hi! Today I’m going to talk about the country I would like to visit. There are many beautiful places in the world, but the one I like the most is Europe, especially London. As I know, London is one of the biggest cities in the world, with so many important places to visit like the Big Ben, the Buckingham Palace, the Westminster’s Abbey, Greenwich, and so much more!

Also, this city has plenty of prestigious universities worldwide, like University College of London, Imperial College London, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London School of Economics, the Royal Academy of Music, and so many others. This is a city where you can have everything, a lot of historical places, a different culture, many universities where you can study, parks, museums and a lot of activities where you can also learn about the history of the country.

I would love to study and live for a couple years there if I had the money, I really hope that I can have the opportunity at some momento in the future.

Music

Hello! My name is Javiera Cornejo, and today I’m going to talk about music. There are different types of music I like, but the genres I like the most are rock and grunge. I think that this genre of music has actually a meaning, instead of most popular pop songs, where the lyrics talks about meaningless stuff. In rock, is more common that the songs have a story behind, which the group or the artist tries to tell all the audience about and transmit their feelings.

For example, the grunge group named Pearl Jam has a song called “Alive”, which talks about a real life story of the singer. The song is about when his mom told him that the man he knew as his father was actually his step-father, and his real father died a long time ago. This particular song is included in their album called “Ten”, which recently celebrated fourteen years from its release.
